The Stockhill Chessmen

The Collector Series Chessmen are  available in a  Standard, Superior and a Signature edition. The  Standard Edition has  32 pieces. No  Box is supplied with the chess pieces and bases of chessmen is padded with green billboard cloth. The Superior Edition features hand-selected pieces housed in a Fitted Rosewood Box. Each piece has a pure  leather base pad in place of the standard billiard cloth. This edition also comes with an extra set of Queens. Original Manufacturers Label and a  Personalized Certificate of Authenticity. The Signature Edition has all the features of Superior Edition packed in fitted rosewood box  with removable  trays with spaces for each piece. plus  extra set of Knights and all the pieces have " SHATRANJ"  gold foil stamped on the leather base of  each chess piece. The Signature Edition also features  Rook and Knight are marked with a small crown on their summits. On the base of the King Base " SHATRANJ " is engraved only in Signature Edition. A  suitable Limited Edition Custom Signature  Chess board is also supplied with the Signature Edition. Pieces are available in natural and ebonized boxwood, boxwood and rosewood, natural and black or red lacquered boxwood, and boxwood and ebony.

We also offer the Collector Series and Thomas Series Chessmen in a boxwood and ebony Club-size, featuring a 4.4" tall King with a 2.0" diameter base. The Club-size Collector Series Chessmen are available in the same Standard, Superior and Signature editions as the Tournament version.

Finally, we offer the Ashoka Series in Red Sandalwood which is a prized Collectors Series boxwood and ebony/bud rosewood chessmen with a 4.3" King having 1.625" diameter base, weighing nearly 8 lbs! We have designed a special Knight  for the Ashoka  Collector Series. With its forward head, design of nostrils etc  this is by far the most spectacular chess piece ever incorporated into a production Staunton chess set.

The Staunton version of  The Stockhill Collectors  set has a 3.0" King with a 1.5" diameter base, is heavily weighted, and is housed in a fine hinged single partition rosewood box, lined in green billiard cloth. The set is available in Boxwood and Ebony or Rosewood.

Our Stockhill Chessmen have a 4.0" King with a base diameter of 1.875". The signature configuration includes a fine, lockable Red Burl box, with a quadrant hinge, manufactured by Stockhill Corporation . The box is designed  in such a way so as to protect the chess pieces from local climate and retain its shine  and is highly durable having years of life. This Signature Chess Set can be purchased with us at our chess store, if so desired.

Nothing can heighten your chess-playing experience more than the feel and weight of a finely crafted Staunton bone chess set. To pamper you, The Stockhill offers our heirloom quality Collector Series boxwood and ebony (and now 200 years old camel bone!) Staunton pattern chess sets, heavily weighted and felted, crafted to replicate the exquisite design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern chess set, first made by John Stockhill and Son of in 1849. The white King bears a pure leather embossed base. The King side Rook and Knight are marked with a small crown on their summits. The Knights, which are modeled after the noble steeds from the Ashoka Revolution are unsurpassed in beauty and craftsmanship. We also offer the Joseph Series Chessmen which is a modification of a turn-of-the-century (1900) design. These exquisite, robust chessmen are designed to withstand the rigors of serious tournament play. Each set is delivered with its original manufacturer's label and individual production number. These are far superior to any production Staunton pattern chessmen available today. Ours are master chess pieces!
